WHAT IS UNBONDED SCREED?

In contrast to bonded screeds, unbonded screeds are not directly attached to the base. Rather, they are separated by a damp proof membrane or polyethylene sheet. Typically, these screeds perform better when their thickness exceeds 50mm, although some modified versions can be utilized at thinner dimensions. To determine the minimum thickness requirements for a specific unbonded screed product, it is recommended to consult the corresponding product data sheet. HOW TO PREPARE FOR UNBONDED SCREED

To prepare a floor for unbonded screed, start by inspecting the concrete base to ensure it is level, stable, and structurally sound. Next, clean the surface by removing any dirt, dust, debris, oil, or grease. Then, lay a damp proof membrane (DPM) or polyethylene sheet across the base to create a barrier against moisture transfer. Install a strip of perimeter insulation around the room’s edges to minimize thermal bridging and accommodate screed expansion and contraction. Finally, check that the surface is flat and smooth before proceeding with the unbonded screed installation.
